SAFECENTER

The SAFECENTER, housed at Safe Haven Center, was established in 2000 to meet the need for specialized services to gather evidence after a sexual assault crime is committed.

The facility is equipped with a private and secured lobby, an interview room and a medical examination room designed for collecting and recording the evidence of a sexual assault crime.

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and Advocate are available 24/7, 365 days a year to provide medical and advocacy services to sexual assault crime victims above the age of 13.

Key to the success of the evidentiary exam is the collection of physical evidence up to 72 hours after the crime. Victims should not bathe, or change clothes before arriving at the SAFECENTER.

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and Advocate also travel to all local hospitals to provide services to patients who were sexually assaulted and admitted to the Emergency Department. Like SAFECENTER services, staff members are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

All Safe Haven Center services are confidential and free of charge .
